We were off to the airport.

It was the middle of labor day weekend, but there was no traffic at all, except near the tennis stadium in queens.

The Air France flight was a giant 777, filled with passengers of many nationalities.

The flight attends started conversations by guessing whether to speak English of French. They addressed me in French a few times.

The dinner of chicken and rice with a grain salad was surprisingly pleasant. The breakfast, a muffin and plain yogurt was significantly less pleasant.

A plane, a train, and a bus.

We arrived a Charles DeGaul airport around 8:45 AM along with thousands of other International Travelers all trying to get through customs at the same time. Winding our way through the lines took about an hour and half. Then on to the luggage carousel. We were a bit worried because our luggage in arriving and we had forgotten to take pictures of it back at JFK. Eventually it arrived safely.

Our next step was finding the train to the city and how to buy ticket for it. Meeting that challenge we were concerned whether the train would stop at Port Royal. It was hard to find a fellow passenger to ask, as they all had luggage and we assume they knew as little as we did. I approached a woman with long hair, wearing jeans and asked her. She said: "Its like in three stops."

Next was finding the bus. Nick was talking about getting a cab, when I saw the 91 bus stop. When we got off at Rue des Gobelin, a woman approached us asking us for directions. We answered with our only definitive French expression, "Non, je ne parle pas Français!".

We arrive at Jose-Maria's and Agnes apartment. We were thrilled to see each other. We determined it was four years since our last visit.

It was already lunch time. We went to a Salvadorian Restaurant, Ana M. nearby, and we all had chicken with mushroom risotto and mous au chocolat. Délicieux. Food in the U.S. has improved greatly over the years, but still has some catching up to do with the French.

After a nap, we walked to the 5th arrondissement to buy a sim card for the phone and to wander up Rue Moufetard.

Agnes returned from her office and we enjoyed a dinner of spaghetti at home—8,000 steps.

I see that on Sept 23, you'll be passing through Les Baux-de-Provence, on the way to Nice. Les Baux is south of St.Remy de Provence. We did a gorgeous last day of our bike tour, riding from St. Remy up (and I do mean up) to Les Baux, then down into a beautiful valley with views of Les Apilles, up over another pass, and down back to St. Remy. While in Les Baux, make sure you see the little chapel that has frescoes that are depictions of Jesus as if he had lived in that area.
