Today, we went on a walking tour of Istanbul, following Rich Steves' recommended route. This involved walking through the Grand Bazaar and passed the Mosque of Sulliman the Magnificent, closed for renovation. Now we got lost, and got to experience some of Istanbul that is off the tourist trail. Each street was lined with shops, as everywhere else, but not aimed a tourists, though we wondered how many customers the lawn mower shop could attract in a big city.
By heading downhill, we hit the Golden Horn, and found the Spice Market where we bought spices. Back to Sultanahmet, we went through the Underground Cistern, and the inside of the Blue Mosque—both quite splendid.
That evening, we joined Barbara and Joe Sroka for dinner at another fish restaurant. Our original plan was to use one recommended by Salim and Nancy Barlas, but as it was booked, we used one recommended by the hotel they were staying at. It ended up a disappointment.
