Paris & Turkey, 2008
Saturday, Jun. 21st, 2008
City:
Izmir, Turkey
Staying at:
Hotel Anemon Izmir
Arriving via:
Turkish Air Flight 314, 8:30 AM
Notes:
Be sure to go to a Fish Restaurant on the sea shore "Deniz restaurant" and "Balik Pisirici" are two good names. Balik Pisirici has better price, and just as good.
Event:
Tour of Pergamon
Comments
A 6 AM cab from the hotel got us to airport with plenty of time to catch the plane to Izmir, though we had a tense moment when the cab driver initially asked "which airport?"
We were met at the airport by «iÁek, our personal tour guide for the next two days,
and
a driver. The distance between the various archaeological sites is far so the arrangement we had made beforehand worked out very well.
«iÁek was spectacularly knowledgeable and was a good friend to us as well as a tour guide. Today she showed us Pergamon, an ancient city, then an ancient Roman health spa. She dropped us off at the Hotel Anemon and made sure our arrangements were in order. The hotel was quite beautiful, with Turkish tile everywhere in the lobby and our room.
